Report Infringement
The intake channel for brands and rights holders.
Draft prepared August 2, 2026 for attorney review. Part of our IP Policy.
1. Who this page is for
This page is for trademark owners, brand-protection agents, and law-enforcement or investigative professionals reporting counterfeit goods, trademark misuse, or stolen merchandise on PaperCrane. If you are a buyer who received suspect goods in an order, use the dispute process described in the Counterfeit & Stolen Goods Policy instead — it refunds you; this page does not. If you are a PaperCrane user reporting another user's listing, use the in-app Report button — it goes straight to our review queue.
2. Copyright and trademark are two different doors
Which process you use depends on what right was violated. Copyright — your photos, your product copy, your designs reproduced without permission — goes through the DMCA process, which is a formal statutory procedure with required notice elements and a counter-notice path for the seller. Trademark and counterfeit complaints — fake goods bearing your mark, listings that misuse your brand to suggest affiliation, storefronts dressed up as your brand — come through this page. If a listing involves both (a counterfeit item photographed with your stolen product images), file the DMCA notice for the images and reference it in your trademark complaint; we will handle them together.
3. What a trademark or counterfeit complaint must include
- The trademark at issue and its registration number (USPTO or foreign registry), or a description of your unregistered-mark rights.
- The exact listings at issue — PaperCrane URLs, one per line. “Search my brand name and remove everything” is not an actionable complaint on a marketplace where reselling genuine goods is lawful.
- Why each listing infringes rather than lawfully reselling genuine goods: what identifies the items as counterfeit, or what about the use of the mark goes beyond truthful identification of authentic merchandise.
- Your name, company, role, mailing address, email, and phone number.
- A statement that you are the rights owner or are authorized to act for the rights owner, and that the information in the complaint is accurate.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
4. Where to send it
Email your complaint to [INTAKE EMAIL — MAILBOX TO BE CREATED]. Until that address is live, complaints sent to support@papercranewholesale.com with the subject line “Rights holder complaint” reach the same reviewer. There is no fee, no account required, and no form to buy — any email containing the elements above is a valid complaint.
5. What happens after you file
We acknowledge receipt within [2 business days]. A human reviews every complaint — trademark complaints are never auto-actioned, because on a second-hand wholesale marketplace the most common complaint (“this listing uses our brand name”) often describes lawful first-sale resale of genuine goods. We aim to decide within [7 business days] of receiving a complete complaint, and complaints identifying counterfeits with specific evidence are prioritized ahead of that. If we need more from you — closer photos of the items, the basis for your authentication opinion — we ask once, and the clock pauses until you answer.
6. Possible outcomes
If we agree the listing infringes, we remove it, notify the seller of what was removed and why, and log the removal against the seller's account for repeat-infringer purposes; confirmed counterfeits trigger the Counterfeit & Stolen Goods Policy, up to permanent account closure. If we conclude the listing is lawful resale of genuine goods, we tell you that and the listing stays up — a resale marketplace cannot treat “we did not authorize this seller” as infringement by itself. Either way you get a written answer, not silence. We preserve records of removed listings, the goods' claimed sourcing, and the seller's account information, and we produce them under subpoena or as the law otherwise requires.
7. Stolen goods
Reports that merchandise on PaperCrane is stolen — retail theft, cargo theft, fraud — should come with the police report number or the investigating agency's contact where one exists. We cooperate with law enforcement on stolen-goods matters, preserve records on request, and do not require a court order to act on a credible theft report; see the Counterfeit & Stolen Goods Policy.
8. Abuse of this process
Complaints are reviewed on their evidence, and filing one is not a lever for suppressing competitors. A complainant who knowingly misrepresents that goods are counterfeit or that a use is infringing may be barred from this process, and for copyright notices is liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). Sellers are told who complained and what was claimed, as the law requires or permits — takedowns are not anonymous.
