Staying safe

Updated August 15, 2026

Your safety comes first. Please read this before you arrange anything with someone you don’t know.

Most important

Never meet in person

PaperCrane is ship-only. Every order is paid for in the app and shipped to you — there is never a reason to meet a buyer or seller face to face, and arranging to do so is not allowed.

Meeting a stranger to hand off goods or cash is how people are robbed, assaulted, seriously hurt, or killed, and high-value lots and cash make you a bigger target. The person on the other end may not be who they say they are. If you choose to meet in person anyway, you do so against these rules and entirely at your own risk, and PaperCrane is not responsible or liable for anything that happens.

What shipping protects

When a deal runs through PaperCrane, your payment is handled safely, tracking proves what was sent, and Buyer Protection can step in when something goes wrong. None of that exists for an in-person or cash hand-off — so if it goes wrong, we cannot see it, refund it, or help you.

If someone asks to meet up

Treat it as a red flag. If a buyer or seller asks to meet in person or pay in cash, you never have to respond. Report the conversation with the flag at the top of any chat — we review these, and accounts that push people to meet in person can be suspended.

Trust your gut

If a message makes you uncomfortable, stop and report it. You are never obligated to continue a conversation, complete a sale, or explain yourself. When in doubt, keep it shipped.
